Frequently asked questions

Have questions? We’re here to help

Do you have point-of-lay hens available?

Yes, we sometimes have a few point-of-lay girls in select breeds! But honestly, our baby chicks are so popular they fly out the door faster than a startled hen. We only have limited stock to grow them out to POL right now, but we're hatching plans to increase those numbers soon.

How hard is it to care for baby chicks?

Surprisingly easy once you've got the setup sorted! Our Starter Kits come with everything you need to get started—no PhD in poultry required. The basics: keep them warm, give them quality chick feed and fresh water, ensure good ventilation, and most importantly… give them buddies! Lonely chicks are dramatic little things.

I can't have roosters. What if I end up with one?

We offer a free rooster return service: just bring them back to us when you can, no hard feelings (or charge).

What happens to the roosters you get back?

We do our best to rehome them first. If that doesn't work, we pass them on to local raptor carers (they make excellent hawk snacks), or we humanely cull them for dog or snake food. Occasionally, some end up processed for our own family table. It's all part of keeping things sustainable and honest—no roosters go to waste!

Can I order specific breeds of chicks?

Absolutely, we're happy to hatch to order where possible! We love mixing and matching breeds—it's half the fun! Our dream is to become your one-stop shop for all the gorgeous, quirky, and rainbow-egg-laying breeds out there. Just tell us what you're after!

Why is my chicken looking lethargic?

We're not vets, but with years of chook-wrangling under our belts, the usual suspects for young ones are Coccidiosis (a sneaky soil bacteria). Our go-to treatment is Baycox, and we can supply small amounts if needed. Respiratory bugs (colds, Coryza, etc.) are another biggie and can turn serious fast. We've had great results with Oxymav B or Triple C.

Where are you located?

We're tucked away in beautiful Dayboro, South East Queensland! If it's a bit of a trek, turn it into a fun country day trip. Grab the best coffee at Jimmy Pickles, pop into the butcher, eat a delicious burger at the Sugar Mill, or wander the little treasures around town… it's worth the drive. We run things from our homestead just near town, with our breeding teams cockadoodle-do-ing just down the road (yep, even we can't have roosters!).

Can I buy just one chick?

If you've already got similarly aged chicks at home, sure—we're happy to help with a singleton! But please don't raise a chick solo; they'll yell the house down complaining about the lack of friends.

Are your chicks sexed?

Some breeds are easy to sex right at hatch—our Cream Legbars are the giveaway stars (the girls rock that perfect "chipmunk with eyeliner" look). We're working on expanding sexed options for more breeds so we can offer guaranteed girls where possible. Stay tuned!

Do you have Easter Eggers?

Yes! We offer Easter Eggers that should lay those gorgeous blue or green eggs… though we can't 100% guarantee the colour surprise. For more certainty, we love our Olive Eggers—they're a reliable olive-egg machine! These are fun crosses like Marans × Cream Legbar (aka Marbars) or Marans × Araucana.

Do you vaccinate your birds?

Nope, we go the natural route. We keep our parent stock healthy and strong through good care, and we believe in letting natural selection build resilience through stronger offspring. Chicks receive gradual exposure to Coccidia from small amounts of soil, which helps them build solid immunity.

Can you deliver?

Sure thing! For orders of 10 or more birds, we can deliver depending on your location. Just get in touch and we'll sort out the delivery fee—no drama.

Can you help my school (or family) with a hatching program?

We absolutely love getting kids excited about hatching chicks! We can put together a package with fertile eggs and plenty of support. If needed, we can even take back some or all of the fluffy graduates afterward. It's such a rewarding experience—highly recommended!

I have a broody hen in urgent need of chicks—can you help?

We love helping a broody mumma out! We can supply fresh fertile eggs, partially incubated ones (so she doesn't have to sit forever), or even young chicks hatching weekly.

What does "partially incubated" mean?

We will work quickly to ship your order as soon as possible. Once your order has shipped, you will receive an email with further information. Delivery times vary depending on your location.
